Asheville North Carolina
The Land of the Sky

Asheville is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains and it is a favorite
vacation destination for romantic getaways. In 2007, Asheville was named one of
the top seven places to live in the United States by Frommer's.

The Blue Ridge Parkway, considered the nation’s most scenic highway,
winds 469 miles along the Blue Ridge Mountains, through Asheville and into the entrance of
the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The area is extremely popular in
the autumn when fall foliage peaks in October.
Asheville is the county seat for Buncombe County, North Carolina with an
estimated population of over 73,000. Visitors during the various seasons will
increase the population considerably.

Downtown Asheville provide a great shopping experience, with diverse galleries,
and shops. The city has the requisite antique district, mostly clustered around
Lexington and Biltmore Avenues.
Asheville has a great historical section downtown that has many things that you
may want to take home with you. It is fun just to walk through some of these old
places just to see what you will find!
O. Henry is the pen name of famed American writer William Sydney Porter
(September 11, 1862 – June 5, 1910).He married Asheville native Sarah Coleman
and he also maintained an office in the city. He was buried in Riverside
Cemetery,
Asheville, NC. They placed a plaque on the city street in his honor. Since he
spent a considerable amount of time in Texas for his health, there is also an O'
Henry Museum in Austin, Texas since 1934.

The Vance Monument is Asheville's answer to the Washington Monument.
This elegant spire of rough-hewn granite honors the Civil War-era governor,
Zebulon B. Vance.
