Asheville is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains and it is a favorite vacation destination for romantic getaways. In 2007, Asheville was named one of the top seven places to live in the United States by Frommer's.

 

 The Blue Ridge Parkway, considered the nation’s most scenic highway, winds 469 miles along the Blue Ridge Mountains, through Asheville and into the entrance of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The area is extremely popular in the autumn when fall foliage peaks in October.

Asheville is the county seat for Buncombe County, North Carolina with an estimated population of over 73,000. Visitors during the various seasons will increase the population considerably.
 

 

Downtown Asheville provide a great shopping experience, with diverse galleries, and shops. The city has the requisite antique district, mostly clustered around Lexington and Biltmore Avenues.

 

Asheville has a great historical section downtown that has many things that you may want to take home with you. It is fun just to walk through some of these old places just to see what you will find!

O. Henry is the pen name of famed American writer William Sydney Porter (September 11, 1862 – June 5, 1910).He married Asheville native Sarah Coleman and he also maintained an office in the city. He was buried in Riverside Cemetery,
Asheville, NC. They placed a plaque on the city street in his honor. Since he spent a considerable amount of time in Texas for his health, there is also an O' Henry Museum in Austin, Texas since 1934.
 


 

The Vance Monument is Asheville's answer to the Washington Monument. This elegant spire of rough-hewn granite honors the Civil War-era governor, Zebulon B. Vance. Vance Birthplace in Reems Creek valley.
